Bob Wiseman, You Don't Love Me

In progress. The latest draft, drawn in code. Its looks are on the styles page.

Stained glass, draft 2

The whole song in stained glass, with a daisy that drops a petal on every backing "you don't love me". In the bridge an old fortune teller reads the tea leaves, and they make the pictures themselves. At the end, little Bob walks through towing his toy piano, tips his hat to the bare daisy and walks off.

Bob Wiseman, Satisfied Mind

In progress. The latest draft, drawn in code. Its looks are on the styles page.

Board game, banknote, cross-stitch and tarot, draft 6

Each verse is a different object on one kitchen table: a 1950s board game called Satisfied Mind, an engraved banknote, a stitched sampler and an old tarot deck. The pawns dance the organ solo, a card trick plays the better solo, and in the last verse he plays the game again and walks off the board, towing a little piano.

Bob Wiseman, After The Holiday Tavern

In progress. The latest draft, drawn in code.

Neon and charcoal, draft 5

A true night after a gig, told in smudged charcoal: the tall guy with the guitar, the wicker chair, friends keeping him awake till morning. A neon tavern sign opens it.

Bob Wiseman, More

In progress. The latest draft, drawn in code.

Crayon and paint, draft 4

A deadpan little customer is never satisfied. Every plain thing starts as a crayon drawing, and wet paint floods over it with the bigger, deeper version as the word is sung.

Bob Wiseman, Me and Jimi

In progress. The latest woodcut draft, plus the whole video redrawn for phones.

Woodcut, draft 10

Black ink and one red plate on rough paper, the same woodcut look as Airplane on the Highway. Ellen McIlwaine drives a school bus through the music business, and Jimi Hendrix waits at the bus stop like a ghost.

Woodcut, 9:16 version

The whole song redrawn shot by shot for a vertical screen, not cropped.

Bob Wiseman, We Got Time

The finished video, drawn in code.

Pinball cartoon, final

A 1970s pinball-style cartoon: a man and a woman lost in a grey paperwork ministry, with the lyrics written into its forms, stamps and signs.

Bob Wiseman, Airplane on the Highway

The finished video. Its look tests are on the styles page.

Final cut

The whole song, every frame drawn in code: a black-box dream in kinetic type, risograph, woodcut rumours, kawaii verses, a 16-bit racer, and a rotoscope dream for the soundscape. Generated transitions carry the plane between worlds, and in the last two minutes every scene flows into the next.
